Inaugural Travel to America

Inaugural Travel Set to Reach Record High .

Whilst the recent presidential election marked the end of a long and twisted campaign trail, it may not be the last record-breaking activity in the Presidential campaign.

Experts predict that the 56th Presidential Inauguration ceremony and related activities on and around Jan. 20th 2009 could attract an unprecedented number of visitors to the Washington, D.C. area.
The nation's capital is one of the most historically rich destinations in America, and there are dozens of museums, monuments and historical sites ..

For example, AV8Tours travel experts recommend that for your holiday in USA:
Watching the inauguration parade along Pennsylvania Ave. where no tickets are required.
Booking a hotel close to a Metro stop to reduce travel time and avoid crowded streets .
Looking for hotels outside the D.C. city limits where there may be lower prices and more vacancy.
Booking tickets for attractions online in advance to ensure your space and avoid standing in line.

Virgin Galactic

Virgin Galactic's mission is to fly passengers who are not professional astronauts to an altitude slightly over 100 kilometers (62 mi) and allow them to experience weightlessness for up to 6 minutes. Each seat will be sold for US$200,000. According to Virgin Galactic president Will Whitehorn, the company had sold nearly 200 seats as of November 2007. The first flight is planned for 2009.

Virgin Galactic is aiming to be the first space tourism company specializing in the provision of sub-orbital flights to the public. While orbital flights can be made by budding space tourists through the Russian Space Agency, there are presently no operational craft capable of sub-orbital flight aside from SpaceShipOne. However, EADS are currently working on a competing sub-orbital craft. Given that SpaceShipOne was designed for a very specific task, Virgin Galactic have commissioned Burt Rutan to design a newer, bigger and better version of his suborbital craft, called SpaceShipTwo. It is this eight seater craft, seating 2 pilots and 6 passengers, which will be used by Virgin Galactic passengers.

Virgin - Biofuel Trials

The first commercial aircraft to be powered by biofuel will fly next year in what could be a significant step towards airlines reducing their oil consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

Virgin Atlantic is to announce today that one of its 747 jumbo jets will be used to demonstrate that biofuels can power an aircraft. The project, which includes Boeing and General Electric, the engine-maker, hopes to have the “green” jumbo airborne in 2008.

The airline and its partners are testing up to eight biofuels to determine which is most effective at altitude. Ethanol, which is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to petrol in cars, has been rejected because it does not burn well in thin-oxygen environments.

Virgin hopes that biofuel-powered aircraft could be operating commercially within five years, which could help to cut significantly the airline industry’s carbon dioxide emissions.
